Earth Day-Keep everything green and clean!

Earth is one of the planets in our solar system. It is third in distance from the sun and the fifth largest in diameter. Earth moves around the sun in a circular type path. It is the only a planet known to support life, although some of the other planets have atmospheres and contain water. Nowadays earth is in dangererous zone because, so many people using natural resources unlimitedly. We could use up our natural resources in a very short time. Not only do all living things depend on our natural resources, but each living thing in the food chain depends on the other to survive. That's why it is important that we take care of our planet and everything in it!

“World environmental day” is celebrated every year on June 5. “World environmental day” was established in 1972 by the general assembly of the UN and was founded by former U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson developed the Earth Day idea leaving the Senate in 1981. Traditionally, this is a day devoted to make green accessible to all. It's a day when each of us is invited to take small, individual steps toward reducing our carbon footprints, limiting our waste, or restoring the environment. Each year the emphasis on World Environment Day is placed on a certain earth topic of crisis. The day involves tens of thousands of events, from rallies and teach-outs to concerts and earth fairs. It supports environmental awareness in cities throughout the world.

“World environmental day” is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5. The UN uses World environmental day to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and public action.

Last year the main global host was New Zealand and the theme was ‘Kick the C02 Habit-Towards a Low Carbon Economy. The theme of this year is chosen by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), which coordinates the day on 5 June on behalf of the UN system and the peoples of the world, will be 'Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change'. Mexico, a country at the crossroads of the Green Economy and one increasingly in the centre of regional and global affairs will host the international 2009 World Environment Day celebrations. Mexico is set to be one of the big economies of the 21st century along with nations like China and India. Mexico also playing an important role in the “Billion Tree Campaign” being planned by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In this plan, Mexico plans to plant at least 25 per cent of the seven billion trees. Mexico's ambitions in terms of combating climate change under this new Special programme include renewable energy using forests and other nature-based assets as carbon sinks-will send a clear message to countries in the region and the world that Mexico means to be part of the solution.

On that particular day, heads of State, Prime Ministers and Ministers of Environment deliver statements commit themselves to care for the Earth. Pledges are made which lead to the establishment of permanent governmental structures dealing with environmental management. It also provides an opportunity to sign or ratify international environmental conventions.
