SAND ART IN PUDUCHERRY FOR CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS








Puducherry, on the occasion of the Gandhi Jayanti, Odisha Sudarsan Pattnaik, a sand artist carved a sand sculpture to spread awareness about the threats of global warming. The exhibition was organized by Puducherry Tourism, Rotary Club of Pondicherry Beach Town, PondyCAN and Kalakendra of Auroville. Pattnaik created the sculpture of the image of the Mahatma Gandhi with three monkeys indicating-`Conserve water', ‘Save forest ' and `Keep your city clean' were the messages wrote on the sculpture on the three monkeys. The sculpture will be shown to the public till 4th of October.

Sudarsan Pattnaik used 100 tons of sand to create the sculpture. The sculpture also featured a smiling mother earth surrounded by greenery and co-existing in tranquility.The sand sculpture exhibition was inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh in the presence of Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam and Home Minister E. Valsaraj.
